also remember, noise tevels. just because it sounds like it's coming from the front passenger side doesn't mean it is. as a tech, i hated to get a work order about something rattling. they are never what you expect or where you expect them to be.

I would imagine it has to be connected to the brakes. I mean a little pressure and zero rattles. Im half tempted to run to a brake shop for an inspection.

I've heard of caliper slide pins rattling just the slightest bit, making a similar noise. Pull your wheels off and take a good look and tug at everything in your brakes.

Default Same Rattle, Stops when using the Brake

VANDELDEN21
"I noticed yesterday that if I give a little brake pressure it doesn't do it. It sounds like from the passenger side tire so I figured I had a caliber hanging there and that wasn't it. "

Sir you gave me the reason to join this forum today. I have the exact same issue with my 01. When I press the brake the loose rattle stops. Sounds like its in the front end. Super loose / light sound. I have looked from bumper to bumper and cannot locate it. I am needing new ideas
Did you ever find the problem?

Haha well let me be the first to welcome you. Ill look again tomorrow. At first I thought it was the passenger side so I pulled the wheel off and looked all over. And could not find it. Now I think its the driver side. Tomorrow I'll pull the driver side off and will update what I find. Just been working long hours.

Thanks for the Welcome. I know that troubleshooting a rattle in person is hard enough, let alone across the country over the internet. But, I figured with 2 people sharing the same issue, maybe we have a chance. The braking is the key IMO. But what should be obvious is not. Everything is tight that I touch. I will search again today

prob brake pads. if the metal retainers aren't installed when they get changed they will rattle after they wear in.

Default Repair Complete

I have chased this issue for 2 years. Light tingy sound going over the slightest bumps. Stops when I barely press the brake. Sounds like the ting sound of tapping on the brake dust cover with a set of keys, but everything is tight.
I explored again yesterday with both wheels off. I have tried the wheel pull and rock test on the bearings before. Perfectly tight. But, there was a slight movement in the rotation and a ever so light clunk. Pulled the bearing hub assembly out and BAM. Clicking when I turn it. Pulled the left side off and found a 1/8" movement going in and out. Rocking the wheel on top and bottom did not reveal this issue. Small amount of play. Replayed both hubs for $63 each and to my complete suprise the sound is gone, the steering wheel tightened up and the assumed tire out of balance vibration stopped.

I guess the slight movement vibrated up into the brake dust cover plates and caused that tingy sound to reverberate just right. The braking stabilized the axle in the bearing and stopped the vibration.
Vandelden21... you may want to yank one out and see if thats your issue as well. Thank you all for the responses to Vandelden, it helped me just get down and dig in. I love my Jeep again

Inspect the swaybar bushings and links as well. If one of the bushings is worn there can be a bit of a rattle but when brakes are applied it will disappear.

That sounds EXACTLY like what I'm going through. Is there a write up on pulling the hub assemblies?
