Default Front end is locked up, no tire movment!

Yesterday I was wheelin with some friends and on my way back, half way through the trail, my front end or transfer case started to knock/ click and then I locked and my front tire had Been dragging. So I disengaged the 4wd and reengaged it and they un locked but when I gave it some gas it started making noises again. What wrong with i?

Sounds like you may have a bearing going bad or bent an axle.

i had to deal with a jeep liberty this week that was doing the same damn thing, the transpher case had snaped a tooth on the chain internally. guess what I rebuild the thanspher case problem solved. Not saying thats what it is, but if it worked properly for a bit after taking it out of 4 wheel bad news seeing as then you go to turn you change the spin rate of the gears and this can change the drive shaft speed leading back to respin of the transhper case.

Pull off the front drive shaft. That would tell you 100 percent if it is in the front axle or transfer case. Although I would lean toward TC problem.

Did you try draining your oil and see if you get a lot of metal particles out of it? It might be worth looking out for a used TC to throw in there.

Metal pieces in your TC oil means something decided it was tired and broke. check your tc oil and your front diff oil too.

could be a broken spider or tooth in your ring gear, had it happen but I was going 75 so it only locked momentarily then blew everything in the driveline out
