Default front end grinds help a newb

so heres my problem my 86 makes a grinding noise in the front end when its in 4 hi or 4 lo and ideas doesnt do it in 2 wheel
oh one more qeustion how hard is it to replace the ignition tumbler in the column

The grinding could be a ton of things, id pop off your front cover and see if anything is going on in there. Look at your u joints too..

IIRC the only way to get the tumbler out is to pull part of the column apart..no really hard.. but its tedious..and is just a pain in the ***.

the guy that had it had the front drive shaft out so im thinking that.
i wouldnt think its in the chunk but hell idk
and the column looks hard to get apart to get to it any tricks.(its not a have to but im tired of having to double check the powers off)
