Default front bumper vacuum ball relocation idea

so while installing my tow hook brackets on my 99 4.0l i decided to move the vacuum ball to make it easier when i build my new bumper well i cut off one side of the bracket to make it fit behind the battery and in front of the fuse box, using the fuse box bracket screw to hold it down i didnt post any pics because its pretty self explanatory

Best place to relocate it...

in front of the harmonic balancer.

WHY?:
1. EVERYONE has room there
2. Easiest to make a mounting for.
3. Leaves room for "other" underhood mounted items

This also depends on if you have the large or small vacuum reservior

ok...I feel more than mildly in the dark here...what does the vac ball do?
I am assuming something to do with the 4x4 system (which I don't have on my rig...hence why I don't have a ball...)

It provides vacuum for several things like the A/C system and the heat to move the blender door on the heat A/C system and the diverter for the defrost air. As you deduced it also helps operate the disconnect on the 4WD front axle but if you don't have the early front disco axle you still need the vacuum ball/football for other things as I described.

I went through the same thing after a women ran into the front of my bumper and cracked it,I just found two of the metal types that look like regular food cans and placed them next to the relays on the right fender well, worked great.
