Front brakes, bearings?
I have to do front brakes on my 99 before inspection. I need pads and rotors. I see that it is the style rotors that don't just slide onto the wheel studs, you have to mess with the bearings. Do you guys usually change all the bearings and seals, or drive out the bearing races and reuse them and replace the seals, or.......?
If Your jeep is 4X4, then the rotors will just slide on the wheel studs. If it is 2 wheel drive, then the bearings may be in the rotor/hub assy. usually the bearings can be reused if there is no pitting on the races of the old rotor. if there is pitting on the old races then the bearings will need to be replaced. It is usually more of a hassle to try to put old races in new rotor, so if you can avoid it, you do not wanna go that route. new rotors typically have races in them. the rear seal can be reused if the seal isnt torn and appears to be in good shape, however they generally cost about a dollar or two ea. so it just makes sense to replace. and dont forget to repack bearings, weather you use old or new.

2 or 4wd use the same wheel bearings that are mounted to the knuckle. No need to replace them unless they are bad. The rotors do just slide over the studs. Pretty simple setup actually. Believe they are 13mm caliper slide bolts and thats pretty much all you need lol
Well, Autozone gave me the wrong freakin' rotors. The diameter was exactly right, the bolt pattern was right, only thing wrong was the disc was about 1/2" too inboard making it rub on the backing plate. Are ABS rotors different or what? One of the most common jobs on one of the most common cars on the road, and I have to make 2 trips.
