Smile Front Brake Pads, Nick of Time

Had the front shock off on my 1997 Cherokee, only way I could get it back on was to lift by the frame and remove the tire. Tire off, inspect brake pads, the outer pad on the left front was very thin.

Turns out I had less than 1000 miles to metal on metal

You can see the outer pad is almost gone on the right side and the lower right of the pad has flake off.

By comparison, here's the right side caliper before and after:

The wear was less and more even on the right side. The new pads are Made in India, AC Delco from Amazon, ~$18, time will tell.

While the XJ was in the air I removed both rear drums, lots of shoe left but badly out of adjustment. Turned both star wheels about 2-turns, so much for self adjusting brakes.

This is at a bit less than 50,000 miles. Pays to be lucky sometimes.

Seized brake caliper, how thick are the rotors?

Lol, I went to metal on metal and then some.

My rotor was paper thin on one side!

You can see the rotors in the pics. I didn't measure, but I'd estimate 0.050-0.100" less than stock. Neither side had any gouges or defects, just a small lip at the very outer diameter.

Don't understand your "Seized brake caliper" comment?

I need to do my front brakes soon. They are getting to be quite harmonious when I apply the brakes.
