Default Front axle shaft removal 86' XJ

I am removing the front passenger axle shaft(s) (2 piece). I watched a youtube video where the second half of the axle is removed using a magnet. However, mine is not that easy so I'm assuming there must be a pin holding the axle to the ring and pinoin. So this is where im stuck, any help is much appreciated.

Did you take the diff cover off and pull the hardened pin and push the axles in and remove the c clips? 2 piece... what a pita.

Try taking off the 2 piece vacuum thing and sticking pliers on the shaft and pulling

In 4wd there is a grinding sound. It's not the ring and pinion so I'm looking to see what the axles look like, which is proving to be harder then I thought.

I am betting that if you pop the diff cover you will find metal chunks.

Nope there are no metal chunks within the differential. The ring and pinion are in perfect condition. The sound is only heard in 4wd and worsens when turning while in 4wd. I'm starting to think that the axle I am try'n to remove is in bad shape where it connects to the diff and that could be why it's not pulling out. I haven't found anything that says there is a clip or a pin that has to be removed in the diff before the shafts can be removed.
