Front Axle seal removal
I've got to replace the driver's side front axle seal.
I see that it's all the way back at the diff.
Two questions:
1. Does it come out the axle tube, or from inside the diff?https://www.cherokeeforum.com/images.../brickwall.gif
2. What do I need to get it out of there?
Thanks for your help, gotta get it back on the road.

If you're doing one seal i would go ahead and do both of them while youre in the axle.
Pull the cover, remove the bearing caps on the carrier bearings and set them in the correct orientation and side that they came off, remove carrier, remove the old seals, install new ones.
Installation is just using a big socket and pipe or something through the opposite tube to seat the seal into the housing.

Very nice, pics are always good. . .
I blew out a u-joint on the driver's side and that's why the seal started leaking.
After seeing what's involved, it only makes sense to do both.
Thanks for the quick and thorough reply !!!

Go Jeep's way is how I did mine. Took new seals to tool store and bought a socket that fit nicely. It's very easy once you pop the diff out.
If you're going to clean the axle tubes out make sure you don't get a bunch of crap inside the diff. Sand can end up inside the bearings very easily

You didn't mention the year but if you have a vacuum disconnect the seal is located in the disco orifice and while it's cake to get out, it is a royal pain in the **** to get back in. You have to build a custom press/mandrel that pulls from the hub carrier.
