I took my Cherokee out to the Pismo Dunes this past weekend and had a great time. But I've got a question. When I put the Jeep in to 4 wheel drive and turn the wheel I hear a loud knocking coming from the front axle. Anyone have any suggestions on what to start looking at?

Mannnnn I've been wanting to take my XJ to Pismo ever since I got it in September last year.
Anyways, is the knocking sound constant? And it's only when the steering wheel is turned and you're in motion? Or is it when you are idling?
Also, you're putting it in 4WD when you are on the sand right?

thanks for the responses.
The knocking only happens when the jeep is in 4 wheel drive and I'm turning the wheel. Or when it's under a lot of stress, example, when I'm trying to climb a dune.
Pismo was a great experience. So much fun. Just be prepared for a lot of wind during the afternoon.
