hey guys i was just wondering if u had any advice. ive got a 93 cherokee laredo. when its in 4 wheel drive it make a clunking noise. and when it not in 4 it makes kind of a rattling noise. hubs? wheel barings? would it be cheaper to replace the hubs and wheel barings.... basically rebuild THE FRONT END OR BUY A NEW AXEL?

You need to give more information. Is this happening when your jeep is in motion only, when you turn the wheels, in reverse? Are your u-joints wiggley?
To check the wheel bearings jack up a wheel, hold the tire at 12 and 6 o'clock positions and move back and forth to see if it moves more than a very slight amount.
But my GUESS is the transfer case should be looked at, check fluid first, mine uses a 10mm allen wrench to loosen the sight hole.

Damn!!! i was hoping no one would say that but now that i think about the one noise does kinda sound like a loose t case chain but it only sounds like its coming from the front left axel. and the clunking is all the time in 4 low and high. mainly 4 low. its started as a squeeking and progressed to clunking. it clunks all the time but way louder when it under stress like when i had to pull a chevy 2500 out of a hole.
