So I'm driving along today when I see steam flooding out of my hood . I pull over and pop the hood . The freeze plug on the back of the head of my 96 4.0 Is laying back behind it completely out of the engine . So my question is is there any way I can get away with not pulling the head ? Any advice will be helpful .

I tried the rubber plug 3 times. They blew out--3 times.
I finally had to pull the head, which wasn't the first time. While the head was off, I went ahead and pulled the short block and rebuilt the whole engine.
No more freeze plug problems.
