I have an 88 Cherokee and the front hubs won't lock due to no vacuum pressure at all. I have read the write up on changing it to be locked in all the time my question is I use my jeep for my around town driving would having the front drive shaft spinning all the time do any damage to anything or is it pretty harmless?

There's a kit you can get that converts the actuator to a cable you control manually from inside. if this guy doesn't still have his for sale, I'm sure you can find one elsewhere new. There is also a modification you can do, there's write ups all over the forums about it cuz people do it all the time.

forgot to answer your actual question - most of the newer era XJs came from the factory without the disconnecting right axle shaft so they all have spinning front driveshafts. My 96 and 99 are that way and they both still drive around just fine!
