Slow, I admit but yes Photo4x5....it was just a fix. Now trying to finesse enough room to fix but then I find that the "fix" has TWO of those same lt blue/red stripe wires going into the connector. This doesnt seem right (?) but I'm still fighting tape trying to get to the wiring in the door part to see what's up with that extra wire. Tried to get a decent pic ...
Ok. I see where the second lt blue/red strip wire goes into...little black harness at side of pic. Oddly, I dont recall it being plugged into its partner. Had noticed empty partner plug bolted in door under mirror plug but never thought 2x about it. Does this mean that both lt blue/red stripe wires are intended to feed together after all (as shown in pic at point of PO's fix?

Doing electrical work is like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. It feels so good once you stop. I don't have a 1999 FSM. I strongly suggest that if you don't have one, you buy one at www.PacificCoastManuals.com (about $7.00 online download). That will tell you where certain color wires start, end and branch.
The reason I say that, is the only other option is to slightly tug on the suspect wire and watch to see what moves on the other side of the loom.
I hope I understand the question correctly, otherwise I'm about to further confuse you.
My "Guess" is that the Blue and Red line that branches off to an unused connector, may be for a remote outside mirror or mirror defroster that your XJ didn't have as an option. It doesn't mean that the wire is not energized, it just doesn't connect to anything.
Try tugging the broken (colored) wire in the door and watch what moves near the hinge. I hope this helps. Let me know.

Ok, so disregard my confusion about the "unused" connector. After being semi smart about it, I see that the "extra" (second) wire coming out of the side of PO's fix is actually a speaker wire (running into the black connector in the last pic and plugged into the speaker). My question is whether my impending fix should look like PO's. See pic- I cut his "fix" out- notice how TWO wires (one of them being said speaker wire) are coming out even though the other end of that fix connected to a single wire (running i to the body side). I wasn't sure if I should also connect the two wires (door side) to the one broken wire on the body side or if i need to split them up. I hope that wasn't too confusing, kind of hard to articulate.
THANK YOU btw for this help
and FSM happens soon!!Quote:

It's hard to read the mind of the PO but it seems that they went to a fair amount of trouble to make it that way. If the radio worked and the parasitic draw is a new thing, I would restore it to the way it was, just not in the same location. I know I'm being redundant but never locate a splice in a flex point, it's just asking for trouble down the road.Originally Posted by tracyk

Well, I spliced it in the same manner (with the speaker wire added in). I avoided the flex point best I could. Attached the switch module to that passenger side, put the fuse back in, and decided to check battery draw again before trying out the switches. It had actually increased the draw to 3-4 amps (with xj off). I removed fuse again and it went back down to 20 milliamps. I didn't bother actually turning it on to test my fix after that, and I left the mess for today.
When I ran out of daylight, I did tear apart the switch modules and found that a couple points could use soldering (although those parts were in the DRIVER's module, at the safety switch button). Passenger switch looked okay.
Expecting rain today, so til then I suppose I'll 2x check other wires in the door and expand the search to the driver's door in case I have missed another broken, frayed wire. I will also have a date with google to figure out why that draw on my battery shot up and how to re-do my first attempted fix
AND download a FSM!
Thanks so much! I had hoped to check back in with good news haha
