ok so i did what you said and it didnt work the fuse must be blown or what not. so i just ran the new wires. now i just need to find a place to put the switch and figure out a way to do it

^^ I just did this on my '88 - before you go routing new wiring did you check the operation with the low beams (not just sidelights) on? Failing that there is a relay that is more likely to be at fault (on mine it's at the front right hand corner of the engine bay as you're looking at the vehicle.
