Fog light wiring?
Hey guys, got a little problem with the wiring on the fog light. I purchased a switch panel with the fog light switch. I have the plug that goes onto it. I added fog lights and hooked the red wire to the cigarette lighter on the left side. The fog switch has red/green/purple/orange wire. The wiring to my new fog lights is red/white/black. (the old fog wiring was messed up by someone and won't work anymore. I suspect someone cut it somewhere) Could someone please tell me what wires to hook up so the light switch will cut the fog lights off, when it is in the off position. I've tried different combos and if the key switch is on...the fog lights are on. Obviously can't have that at night. I need to be able to turn them off, when driving with headlightds on, so not to blind someone with the extra lights. Thanks for any help!

If had to guess hooking up the red wire to the cigarette lighter might be why they are on. Pretty sure the cigarette lighter won't work unless the key is on.
Now it had fog lights?
But not factory which is why you purchased a 3 switch bezel with a fog light switch?
And got a pigtail for the fog light switch?
OK no idea why your fogs have 3 wires. Figure it should be just power and ground.
And where is your relay?
Fogs should be wired to a relay.
Give this a read.

Gotta say I am pretty confused.

Now it had fog lights? No, I just added them.
But not factory which is why you purchased a 3 switch bezel with a fog light switch? Correct.
And got a pigtail for the fog light switch? My old panel had a blanked out bezel, where the fog light switch would have been. It had a pigtail for something plugged int the backside of the blank. I asume that would be for the fog lights, if factory equiped.
OK no idea why your fogs have 3 wires. Figure it should be just power and ground. Needs to have a trigger wire for relay. Re/white/black...the white one goes to the relay I installed.
And where is your relay? Underhood close to battery.
Got it.
Do you look over the thread at the link I posted?
Still don't understand why you have 3 wires on the fog lights themselves.
Do you have a link for what you bought?
Look at the diagram for wiring in that thread.

I can hook it up to a sepaarate switch, that came with the fog light harness (after market stuff). The button will turn the lights on /off but stays hot all the time, with the button lite on. It would get real warm too. I would have to mount tht one on the dash with sticky tape. I don't wawant to do that, I like the original look of the stock setup. Hence, the new (used) panel with the fog light switch in it. These are led foglights so they don't have very much draw.

You do realize that you could have used the connector behind the blank in the bezel.
Black is ground
Purple is for the 12V run source for the switch
Blue will be the 12 volt out to the relay
Orange is the illumination for the switch.
Even though your Jeep did not come with fog lights a couple of those wires are hooked up.
Black and orange. What is cool about the orange being hooked up is that the symbol on the factory fog light switch will illuminate when you turn on the headlights without doing anything.
Giving you that factory look.
Now purple and blue are not hooked up. So you have to cut them and attach them to the places above.
I am wondering if your switch is bad.

I suggest you not cut anything.
Leave the existing wiring alone. Trying to sort out existing wiring is a job for people who understand a factory wiring diagram.
Just start from scratch and run your own. It's not difficult.
And leave the cigarette lighter out of it!
I'll walk you though it if you decide to go that route.

"Did you read that thread?"
Yes, I read it and am going to try it this morning. Thanks.
The connector is still there, I did not cut it off or anything.
"I am wondering if your switch is bad." i don't think so. I had the switch illuminating to see if it was on or off, at one point
Thanks, I will go out an piddle with it this morning and get back to you.

"And leave the cigarette lighter out of it!"
