Default flowmaster vs straight pipe

got a gurgly Renix i finally got it running good, do I run straight pipes so it sounds like a Cummins??

or run a super 40 series with a high flow cat?

I dented the stock muffler wheelin and thats a good enough excuse to ditch it for me.

All comments/expierience welcome

BTW 31x 10.5's MT's look SICK and fit on a stock XJ with no rubbage and M/T wheels

Run a cat or the thread will get closed. I would run a super 40. It sounds awesome.

X2, highflow cat, with a flowmaster super 40. And 2.5" piping all the way. Would be my choice.

If you want it to sound like a Cummins, put a 4BT in it. Otherwise slap on a high-flow cat and a Flowmaster.

Don't go cat-less. Not only is it illegal, but you can lose some low-end grunt, too.

If you dented it, might look at the super 44 off road series, it uses diamond plating and is very very sturdy.

I'm happy with my FM 40 the "original" flowmaster, not the "super" or "delta" or whatever, 2.5" with a "high flowing kitty cat",lol. Just make sure to run at least a little bit of pipe out of the muffler, makes a world of difference in sound, at first I had mine with nothing coming out of the muffler, and it sounded like $***, like a riceburner with a coffee can exhaust tip, then I added just an 18" section of 2.5" straight pipe out of the muffler, and it sounds really good now.

Just a heads up, our cherokee's take a center in / offset out and Flowmaster no longer makes that configuration in the original 40. You must go to the Super or Delta if set on a Flowmaster.

Mine's offset in, center out, I have the muffler up against the frame rail with a piece of sheet metal I screwed into the body as an extra barrier/heat shield sandwiched between the muffler and the frame rail and floor board, it's definitely a tight fit, I was saying some pretty nasty things only sailors say when i was doing the install, LOL, but at least there's no more annoying noises coming from the exhaust pipe hitting everytime I hit a bump, my old exhaust was SHOT.

you think running a 2.5 inch will make that much of a difference over the stock 2.25?
