Default Flow Kooler water pump

I just installed this pump with new radiator hoses. The lower hose I bought did not have the spring in it. I tried to get the old spring out and destroyed it in the process. Do I need to be concerned about this? The factory hose was not available locally and costs $51.00. Has anyone witnessed a collapsed hose?

Thanks

Only time I've seen a collapsed hose is when the motor is cold, not running and the collapse is due to a bad rad cap. No spring in the new hose we installed....no collapse either.

The 71 Ford I had (my very first vehicle) was missing the spring in the lower hose and I noticed that if you reved the engine the lower hose would collapse so I took a piece of wire and made one to keep it open. Just spiraled it up to a size to fit inside the hose and slipped it in.

I used plain steel wire and it did rust some, probably would be better to find some heavy gauge copper or at least galvanized to help prevent the rust. But if you can rev the engine up and it doesn't collapse then you should be ok without it.
