Question Flex Plate issues

Ok so im about ready to pull my trans and switch out my flex plate. I really hope that is really the problem, ive had about 3-4 different shops tell me that is what it is.
Originally thought it was a rod knocking, but then took it to a trans shop and they took off the inspection cover(to see if the torque converter bolts were lose) and they tightened them up for me and it still made the same noise but they said there was some (ok a good bit) slack in the flex plate and they recommended that i replace it.

So back to me about ready to fix it.
1. is there a place i can order a replacement without going thru the dealer ( and yes i have checked the parts warehouses, (advance, oreilys, autozone, napa, ect )
2. this will be the first time i have pulled a trans ( and i do have a trans jack that i can use) but is there anything i need to know before i do it
3. is there anything i should get and replace while i have the plate off the motor
4. any general advice would be great

By the way its a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 aw4 automatic with the chrysler rear in it. thanks for the help

It means absolutely nothing to me. "Slack"? What in the world is "slack"?

ok let me explain,
when i took it to the trans shop they showed me that you can turn the plate about 2-6 inches without turning the crank at all and yes it was still connected to the torque converter
but i might have a new problem i am having trouble finding the plate does anyone have a way to look up a vin and tell what parts go on it

if so the vin for my jeep is 1J4FT68S2WL234264 and the part number that i got off line was that it would be one of 2
they are 52117761 or 52118551

i just dont know what the right part is

Broken in a nicer way.
I've changed a few. They aways crack around the crank shaft bolts.

I've heard the word "slack" all my life.

As well as "shackley", which means essentially the same thing.
