Default Is this fixable?

I want to add a lift to my jeep but want to fix the rust issues first, this is the worst of them all, there are about 3 other spots that are small and can easily be patched

Yea it fixable, how good are you at welding? I assume not very if your asking this question, XJ's are hard to weld and fix because everything is sheet metal and nothing solid to really weld to.

I just cut out that exact same area on mine, but bigger. Rusted from the subframe out to both sides, but not in the middle. I plan on cutting some metal and going to tac weld it in with a lot of sealant. the leaf is supported as long as it has a good connection to everything else. Those "tabs" on the top are only there to support the floor I'm pretty sure.

Ok thanks, do you know how think the metal should be for this area? my dad has a welder but neither of us know how to use it but his friend at work said he'd teach him so once that's done we'll be in business. If not then my friends neighbor is supposedly a great welder and might do it if we ask

it can be done i cut the floor out so i could box the top of "frame" and tie in the spring perch and tie all that to the rocker panel with kinda a T with a bend then tied the floor all back into the "frame" looking forward to doing the other side soon Name: 0416121252a.jpg

And that was some extensive rust you had going there! I think mine is fixable with much less work than what you had to do but still a great deal of work. Thanks for your pictures! What thickness and type of metal did you use? Will scrape metal work?
