Default first a sputter....now dosent want to start when hot

recently started having a new isssue with my xj....went camping over the weekend. was climbing up a fairly steep grassy hill in 2wd. starting spinning my tires near the top so i gave it some gas to climb back up to the road. i got up to the road and began to acclerate and my jeep pretty much completely cut out on me for about a second and a half then came roaring back to life. other than that brief cut out my xj ran normal. drove home (about 15 miles) and parked....about 10 minutes after parking my ol lady wanted to go to the store so we hopped in the jeep....and it just cranked.....crank crank crank crank but no start. i gently pressed the gas pedel and tried to start it and it fired up no problem and ran normal.....the next moring with the jeep completely cool it started no issue. read a few past post on here describing similar simptoms......it seems most recommended the crank position sensor, fuel pump, or coil. i can hear the fuel pump power up when i turn my key....so im guessing the pump is good....could it be the pressure regulator? would the crank position sensor cause the "cut out" i experienced? any help or advise would be awesome

Both the CPS and the coil can have heat related problems like you describe. Tough to test other than by substitution.

That's where I would look next. Could be something else, but those two things seem to have a pattern of heat related trouble.
