also i dont know if anyone else had these issues but when you drop the t-case it puts more stress on the engine mounts so keep an eye on them. i also had to push one of my hoses (ac?) out of the way of the fan once i was done.

I agree on the studs....the one on the passenger side for me gave me the most trouble. Used PB blaster...heat.....anything I could think of. Finally ended up drilling a new hole in the frame rail and beatin the SOB out and it came out.
For the grinding, that's just part of your vibes. Been there, done that. Ultimately a SYE is the way you want to go, but for now it sounds like a tcase drop (1" max) will hold you over until you get the SYE.
You can get a front DS from any year XJ, just needs to be from another 4.0/AW4 combo.

I found that driving in full time 4wd helped with my vibs, it seems to spit the tourque.
I have always been wary of the transfercase drop, I would preffer to keep it as high as possible and out of harms way.

i just pulled in the shop to make a tc drop, and i already broke the first bolt i tried. i'll warm up the others i think. may be a long night.......

ok, got the drop made, i learned my lesson after the fighting the first bolt, which I ended up having to drill it out and tap to 7/16.'' So i heated the other ones up with the torch and carefully got them out. Making the actual spacers was very simple. Took it for a drive and it reduced my vibes quite a bit. Still have some under hard acceleration, but its bearable until sye. And i still have a growl when I back off the throttle. It only does it with no load (accel or decel) on the drivetrain. I'm thinking front u-joint? It has 126k so they its probably due for replacement. Can the cv shaft be rebuilt, or do they ever need to be?
