Hello, new to the forum. Hope I can pick your collective brain. I probably should have started here in the first place.

96 Cherokee 5sp SE, Original owner, 4.0

Throwing trouble codes "random mis-fire" and several different cylinder mis-fire codes. The longer it runs, the more cylinders misfire. Starts but it takes a few more revs than normal. Noticeable misfiring while running. No different uphill, down hill or under load.

This is what I've done: New cap, rotor, wires, plugs, fuel filter, and checked for vacuum leaks. Also replaced the ignition coil and the old one must have been weak because it does run stronger now but still misses.

I'm thinking that I might have a faulty crank position sensor or wiring to it. So I'm replacing it. It was kind of a pain to get out and I think it's going to be a much bigger pain to put in the new one.

Questions:

Is there any secret to getting tools in there to put the new CPS in without pulling the trans? I can't get my hands in there and I'm not a real big guy.

Do you think I'm moving in the right direction by swapping the CPS?
