A few quick questions...
Its getting hot where I live (actually only about 60-70 degrees, but Im a hot blooded guy and anything above 50 sucks) and I need to get my a/c recharged. Now, when I bought it the guy told me I just needed to get it recharged with the newer freon. What is this and do I have to modify anything on my Jeep to accept it? Also, I need to replace my harmonic balancer soon. Its not completely failing yet, but its showing signs. I saw a vid where a guy with a bad HB turned his ac on and the balancer kinda blew out or something. Is this normal. if you have a bad HB? Thnx everyone. One more thing, the mechanic told me I might be needing to replace my fuel injectors soon due to old age and leaking (almost 20 years old). Anyone know a good place to get some good injectors?

As far as the feon you have to see if its R12 or 134A. If its R12 good luck finding it and if you can get as much as you can. lol You most likly have an R12 system so you need to switch to 134A. The HB isnt a hard job at all to change out. And for the injector run a search there is a crap load of threads about doing them and using neon or mustang injectors. hope this helps any

being a 91 you will have R12, unless it has been converted (which you would see an adapter on the A/C recharge port if it has been converted already) it sadly is not just a process of putting in new coolant, R12 and R134a use different lubrication properties, if the R12 has leaked out, then you have a leak, and adding more R12 will just leak more killing both your wallet (R12 is like gold) and your Ozone layer. get your A/C properly converted (drained of r12, r12 oil drained, drier replaced with one for use with r134a, then recharged) there are chances that if you directly put r134a in it, it will work, but also a good chance it will destroy all your components, causing you to spend more money

I put a new drier on my today and it is a R12 or 134A system. It runs both. I also drained my comprssor and refilled it with oil Can remember the name of it then started charging it but had to stop due to a pressure switch but Im ganna put it on in the morning and charge it up with 134A. I also got the retro kit. My neighbor has done it for years and years on every car or truck with very little problems.

It can be converted. I had mine done a few years back and it was pretty cheap. Cheaper than the R12 by itself as I remember. It will have different valves on the compressor so that no one ever confuses the system contents in the future.

so Im confused. Does this mean I have to buy all new compressor, hoses, o-rings, etc? Im not mech savy, so forgive me. But is this conversion gonna cost me a lot? I dont know if it leaks or not, nor what this adaptor looks like. All I know is the guy said it needed the new stuff and recharged.
Thnx for helping me out guys. I really appreciate it.

They have a convertion kit at Walmart for like $20. Its mainly the fittings you have to replace so you can hook the R134 bottle to it. Just have a shop evacuate you system so you're not mixing 12 and 134. All the parts (compressor, etc.) should work with R134.
I've never herd of having to replace the dryer. Is that true?!?

If you look at the bacok of your compressor you will see 2 ports if they are small like your tire valve then its still R12 but if they are bigger its 134A. A new dryer (filter) is only like 40ish bucks and o rings are like 5 bucks for a pack and you wont even use them all. Like rivercrazy said you can buy the retro kit for like 20 bucks. You still can use your compressor( if its still good) When I get a chance Ill try and take some pics of the fittings.
