A notcher?
No you dont need one. Yes they are awesome and a great tool to have, but you can get a decent job done with a grinder, it just takes a million times as long.

He who dies with the most tools wins. I think I'm in third place.

The notcher in not essential. If you go to a good welding supply store they have templates that you can wrap around most routine sized pipes that will let you mark where to cut with a plasma or even Oxy/Ace cutter. That and a little grinding will have you cutting and welding like a pro. That is what the oilfield welders use and their welds have to hold under high pressure conditions.

I got a better idea move in next to a guy who builds & race Pro sprint cars and use his tool while saving your money for parts. Hehheeehhehe!
