Hey y’all, I’ve got a 01 limited with the steel blue pearl paint. I was wondering if anybody has painted their fender flares and bumpers a dark grey or light grey and what it looked like? Any pictures would be awesome, the fenders are starting to fade and figured I’d give them a face lift until I can get flat flares
Since no one replied all day, I can at least provide some input on the bumper paint I used for my flares. It is an older XJ, so they are not supposed to be body color in this trim level. I have seen '01s with black rubber bumpers, with the center body colored around the license plate. I think it would look O.K. with dark grey flares. I used Dupli-color trim & bumper paint (black). It also comes in charcoal. SEM has a dark gray bumper paint, but I have no experience with it. Below are pictures of the paint I used, a before picture of a flare, and after:
The paint covered well. It looks like the original color, maybe a little too shiny. I had to respray the front lower corners after driving in the snow, it got blasted off.

Hey,
Yeah, some folks have gone with dark or light grey on their flares and bumpers. It can look pretty sharp against the steel blue pearl gives it a more modern, two-tone vibe. Check out the Tacoma World forums; there are a few threads with pics of that exact combo.
Going on 3 years (13,000 miles) and they still look almost as good. The lower front of the rear wheel flairs look a little sand blasted, with the white starting to come through. Nothing a little touch up won't fix.
