Default fender flare swap question

I've got a '94 xj, and like the look of the later models flares a lot better, is it possible to install late model flares('98-01) on an older model? Do the fit good? Direct bolt on? I really like the Rusty's front flares, so I think I'm gonna go with those for the front, but don't want the huge wide flares for the back, and think a later models flares would look way better than it's current flares, if I had the money I'd just buy the Bushwacker cut outs, but I'm not paying that much for fender flares, lol. Also, in KS, where I live, the tires can stick out farther than the flares, so I'm not concerned with that, I actually want them to stick out as far as possible. Thanks for the info, and keep on the throttle! lol
