Default Fender Bender = Check Engine Light?

Uhg...So I backed into a car the other day accidentally. I damaged the Honda Accord's hood pretty good. I'm going to get the other guys car fixed.

But for the topic at hand....I looked over my Jeep and there appears to be no damage. However all of a sudden the CEL popped on. This sucks because I've only had the truck for a couple weeks. (talk about a bad start).

I'm taking it to the mechanic today to have a proper run through to see what's up. Just curious if any of you had any ideas. The muffler and exhaust pipe seem fine so i don't know if there was an issue with how the truck is breathing.

I'll report back after my mechanic looks at it.

My guess would be an evaporative emmission system code. The canister and associated valving are above the gas tank on most all later model Chrysler products. I'm assuming the same on our Jeep's. The jolt to the rear of the truck could have damaged a piece of the system.

thats EXACTLY what my mechanic said it is... or probably is too.

Ended up there is suspension work needed on the drive shaft since it's so old, new brakes and rotors needed too.

$940 to get the truck in good runnning conditions
