Default fast idle

I have a 1988 XJ (Cherokee Larado). I have had problems with the idle. It used to idle too slow. I replaced the IAC and TPS and cleaned the throttle body. Now, when I start the jeep, it stars at about 1500 rpm and then settles down to between 1,200 and 1,000 rpm. Ever so often it will idle fine but most of the time it idles around 1,000 to 1,200 rpm.

The cherokee has 150,000 miles and runs fine.

This is my first jeep and I am learning.

Any ideas??

Thank you,

Ray

X 2 check for any stray vacuum leaks. Make sure your TPS is adjusted correctly and that your IAC motor is not sticking in the bore.
