So during a search of forums everyone says MOTOR MOUNTS! Ok well heres the story.

88 xj 4.0, aluminum replacement radiator (about 3/8" thicker than stock), factory fan clutch/fan/shroud.

Thanksgiving weekend fan clutch kissed the radiator under a good load in 4low... I checked the motor mounts and they were shot.. Came home and installed 2 new motor mounts and new trans mount.. Problem solved right? Wrong. Did the toys for tots run yesterday and crawled up a big rock and boom fan clutch hits and cuts through the radiator There is a 1/2" gap between the fan clutch and radiator at rest on flat ground.. Hows my drivetrain moving over a half inch in 4low with all new mounts? any advice?

If all is right with the world(and it so often is not..lol) it could be flex issues, bent radiator mount, cracks in uni-frame at firewall-ish. At home find a tall (8in or better)curb and roll one wheel up on it then measure distance from fan, did the number change?.

 

Use Brown Dog Motor Mounts. I had same problem and replacement chinese cheap mounts lasted a month.

 

Thanks guys. I think I'm just gonna go to brown dog mounts when I can afford it. I think you guys are right it's just the combination of everything and with the cheap Chinese mounts it's just too much movement.
