Rock auto sells primarily two different looking fan clutches for the cherokee 4.0, I tried google but couldn't find any information on the differences between the two designs if any. the first is the fan clutch you see the most that is flat on the front with some metal tabs. The second looks to be bulkier on the front with fins. both listed as standard duty. Is there a difference between these two other than design or do they both have the same engagement?
Visually see the differences, they are obvious but what is the root of this thread? Are you asking a question or pointing out details for awareness?
Which one should you buy? Based on experience which one may perform better? Will both of these in fact work?
I can tell you from my own experience, using the above pictured with the 4 protruding flat tabs, ive punctured multiple radiators with that setup - Granted this was also while doing offroad things really aggressively while on stock motor mounts. No pun intended but im not a fan of those tabs.
Good point I should have added a more specific question, is there a difference in clutch engagement between these two? or are they the same standard duty but just different designs. I'm currently running a Hayden 2737 which is a 2.5 / ZJ standard duty fan clutch but I've seen conflicting information on if there was a 4.0 heavy duty fan clutch meant for cherokees. I thought maybe the bulkier looking one was possibly a heavy duty one.
