Default Fan clutch

Would a failing or worn fan clutch, cause squealing?? I've had nothing but problems with my new motor. New idler pulley, ps pump and pulley. I've had the belt off and turned everything but couldn't hear a squeal. I'm leaning towards the fan clutch but I'm not sure if there is suppose to be play in it or not. Or if it would just squeal under tension of the belt. Any input would be helpful.

Well they're only about $40 or so and not too bad to get to and replace.

Wouldn't hurt to have a new one with a new engine, anyway. And it would eliminate it as a possibility, even if the squeal is still there.

How is the rubber in your harmonic balancer?

I just got one, just haven't touched it yet. My harmonic balancer is fine. The noise is at the top of the motor. It gets worse with acceleration. That's why I think it's the clutch. That and it wobbles. I was just double checking. See if I needed to check anything else.

There shouldn't be any play in the fan clutch. It's a constant squeal?

Wobble is very bad. It has failed. Next it will send the fan through the radiator or the hood. It's also wearing out the water pump shaft and bearings.

It is constant. It goes with the rpms as well. Sometimes it stops. But for 95% of the time, yes.

We can take it easy on that, i just replaced it. (New motor doesn't even have a hundred miles on it so I think everything is all good) even with the new fan clutch, it squeals. Guess that just leaves the a/c compressor?

It wasn't too bad. Just getting those bolts back in was kind of frustrating haha.

And I take that back. What about the water pump pulley? Could that squeal??

If the harmonic balancer and individual components that the belt drives are in good condition, the squeal is caused by a belt that is not tight enough.

I can try to tighten it again, the last person that tightened it was the mechanic. So I wasn't too worried about it. Maybe a new belt is in order anyways. I'll do that.

Try to get a Goodyear Gatorback. I went through about 4 Gates belts that would squeal and chirp until I finally put on a Gatorback. That solved that problem.

Update: New belt made a difference! Doesn't squeal, but there is a slight noise upon acceleration. I think I didn't tighten belt enough. What is the appropriate tightness? I've read around the internet and someone mentioned a twist method?
