Failed emissions test 1988

88 4.0, in Oregon. Recently had an oil change and air and fuel filter change as well.

Had it more than half year, taken it 8,000 miles since I got it, almost all on nasty dirt roads and highways. Time to renew the tags and it failed. I'm sure you guys get this one a lot... but I'm hoping someone can help. The thing on the back of the page has some suggestions but not very specific or helpful.

HC: 366, 268
CO: 1.98, 2.22
CO2: 11.9, 12.2

They said I'm allowed 220 HC, and 1 on the CO.

Any help appreciated, or how to check the various components- I certainly can't afford to throw parts at it.

Search, my friend. There are hundreds of threads on failed smog and recommended remedies. You can get more specific results by including HC in your search, e.g. "Failed smog HC"
