i have an 89 cherokee and i had to put on some rocker panels cuz of rust. i picked up some burgandy krylon paint and figured if it dident match good id use it for primer. Was way too pink. The closest thing i can get so far is pr8 which is chrystler director red however its too light. So i tryed spraying some blue paint down first then the duplcolor over it and the color seemed to darken up alil but its no match too light. However i have found a place that will mix up a batch of almost any color car but its obviously not gonna be a spray can just a can of mixed pant. Anyways here is a pic of the jeep u can see the color difference. Any thoughts on what paint to buy should i buy another can of the duplicoat and another color or should i not use duplicolor again and purchese something else that is a closer match. I almost think i can darken up the director red but it almost seems not purple and dark??? Any thoughts would be great.

It would help if you had other pictures in your profile. To see the over all condition of the XJ. But I myself would either go to a paint shop, and get the exact match. (they can put into spray bombs, but it's expensive). Or think about two tone. Doing the lower body in Satin black, Possibly rhino liner (to prevent further rusting). Add would match your fender flairs. Some of those can also be tinted to match, or reasonably close, To the body color. A lot of people here have done that, And some of them look really good.............................................. .........................................JMO!

im almost thinking under coating up to the rubber strip on the door leave the rest maroon would be almost the same as what u say however im looking for color code pe-8 which motor supply will mix up for anyone for about 15 bucks i could spray it on but i was hoping just to use 2 kinds of spray cans which would blend like say the pr-8 i found and maybe some dark purple and use the purple as a base coat then spray over that with the director red pr-8 and it would be pretty close?? what ive done so far is ive sprayed down some dark blue enamal i had laying around on a section let it dry then i sprayed the chrystler pr-8 color over that seems like it darkened up just alil if only i could get the color darker more of a brownish purple dark id be ok?? btw the top half above the metal trim with rubber is the original color the lower half is the lighter brighter pr-8 duplicolor can. So far pr-8 is the closest thing to the factory jeep color i could find in a can

there is a paint code on the door where you find the tire pressure, you can get that go to the auto parts store and factory colored paint to match in a spray can(painted the GF hood with this paint, came out really nice and matched) but since your jeep is as old as it is, you are going to have to account for paint fade.... I would suggest, like you mentioned, just under coating or better yet bed lining the bottom halves

well ive done some body work sanded down the ruff spots and bubbly areas filled em in with body filler. As i havent done much body work before 3rd time i havent mastered getting everything real smooth. ive done 2 coats so far and sanded everything is fairly smooth a few low spots im thinking after a 3rd coat everything will be fairly filled in and smooth.
