Factory OEM Fog Lights
All:
My 1999 Cherokee did not come with fog lights, but i want to install them. I am planning to install Factory OEM lights. I believe that the jeep was originally build with the 'police package' (?) if that is the correct term/description.
I have the new fog lamps, but still need to cut out the corner bumper 'knock outs' for the actual lamps, I have purchaced the correct 4-switch bezel as my jeep has the ext. idle switch so there was not a slot for the fog light switch, I picked up a factory fog light switch w/pigtail at the junk yard, and now the questions begin. What are the chances that the existing wiring harness is set up for fog lights? I did a quick check behind the existing switches, but did not see any unused connectors, I did however find something interesting last night. I noticed that on center of the jeep - behind front of the bumper was a factory plug end/connector with a factory wire loom attached. Is that where the Factory Fog lights "T" left and right? There is no wiring behind either fog light location. By the looks of it, the factory wiring is in place, of is this connector for something else, possibly for the front lic. plate? I am not skilled enough to do the work myself, but i want to at least ahve all the parts and pieces ready for whoever does the install for me.
Any help is appreciated.

If the connector behind the bumper is in the center more then likely it would be for the digital ambient temp sensor and not the fog lights. The connector for the fog light (at least on mine) is located on the drivers side.

Look further out to the side. the main wiring harness on my 2000 (and 1998) terminates the fog light plugs just above the fog light mounting bolts with plug facing rear of the vehicle and is held in place by one of the plastic christmas trees on the bottom of the plug which is gray. If it is in the center it is indeed for the temperature sensor and the overhead console. I thought the police prep cherokees came with fog lamps.
EDIT: If you are familiar with electrical wiring it may be worth your time and money to get aftermarket fogs and wire them in by splicing in a new connector (if you go this route don't forget the electrical tape). My OEMs never lasted very long the reflectors always rotted out.
