Default Exhaust pipe dent? (with pic)

So the last couple of weeks I've been getting a ticking noise, poor mileage, and a funny smell (yay), and I suspect the exhaust manifold has cracked.
I just took a flashlight to take a peek, couldn't see any cracks, but noticed that the pipe connecting to it had dents on two sides. Just wondering if this is normal.

ive got a very similar dent in the same place, but it was there when i bought it. I always assumed it was from when the po did the motor swap before i bought it.

Its never caused a problem for me.

Well it could be that it was designed like that... Chrysler.. But it seems weird to me that it would be constricted in a place that would likely require high flow.

It's made like that from the factory to clear the front driveshaft when you are in uber-flex mode.

Yeah thanks eastbeast, that was my other suspicion that it may have to do with pressure and what not.
Thanks for clearing that up!
