Exhaust Manifold Replacement Project..
We'll see how long it lasts. I removed the exhaust manifold and welded the numerous cracks. But, this time I welded the joints in 'fingers', meaning I drew some welds down a bit in places so it wouldn't have a clear line to crack next to. I also added some 'webbing'. I was going to install an expansion bellow in the exh manifold but it never arrived (I need to contact that ebay seller). The vehicle ran ok before but I also did the following preventative "fixes" while I had it apart:
1) Cleaned inside of intake manifold (some grease/oil/gunk build-up)
2) Cleaned IAC, Throttle body, EGR. The throttle body had quite a few heavy deposits
3) Unplugged the CCV grommet (I need to order a new one)
4) Resolved a couple minor vacuum leaks
5) Cleaned the intake temp sensor (Renix system). It was fairly deposited.
6) Will order/replace the O2 sensor soon. Getting that SOB out took a lot of heat.
7) Took a heat gun and straightened the air filter box. It had become distorted probably due to a fire from excess oil built up (probably due to a plugged CCV).
8) New exhaust studs
It popped off on the first blip of the key. That was nice. Vacuum is only 15-16 however. I may plug off some ports and see if it changes. Motor is somewhat tired, but runs ok for a plow and seasonal truck. Next jobs - New pinion bearings, then remove heater box and replace decayed foam seals. Need some HEAT in the winter!!
