Exclamation Exhaust Manifold Q's

Okay when I go to get on it, i can hear like a metal like vibrating sound, is the manifold cracked or WHAT

Is it a sort of cross between a "tick" and a "putt", or is it more of a sheetmetal rattling sound?

If the former, check torque on all of the screws - especially the ones at the lower rear of the manifold. Also, check the nuts on the collector studs (to the downpipe.)

If the latter, you may want to look for loose body panels or something.

if your exhaust is loose or cracked you will here a tick almost like a tapping valve

Check for a loose cat. converter heat shield.

If it is an auto trans it could be your flex plate. Where exactly is the sound coming from?

I just changed my flexplate. It sounded nothing like a rattle. more like a worn wrist pin. But hey I'd say check that sheild on the cat. it's probably rusted and getting ready to fall off.
