everytime I push the Brake pedal my lights dim and gauges go crazy 89 jeep cherokee
I have a 1989 jeep Cherokee laredo, I have had it for a while now with no problems at all. I recently did an oil change and that is when my problems started. When I was leaving that day, I noticed that when i turned my headlights on my gauges reacted weird. then when i pushed the brake, all of my interior lights including my headlights dimmed. then the blinkers slowed down.. and only blink maybe 6 or 7 times a minute. please please please some one telll me what is going on!! what is my problem? where should i start? alternator is fine. battery is fine. i don't know what else it could be!

my power windows both dont work now, sometimes if you bang on the door it goes down. Sounds like a bad ground strap maybe, the whole problem. check the ground for the battery, and there is a ground strap in the back of the engine bay.

Check EVERY ground you can find.
You might also have a short to ground in your brake light circuit. Pop the tails off and check for moisture inside them.

Voltage regulator in the alternator? Check your brake bulbs, and make sure you have the proper fuses in... it sounds like the draw from your brake lights is more than it should be, so you might have a short somewhere. Pull the lights from their sockets and see if your voltage drops when you press the brake. Then put them back in one by one until it does. How is your battery? Either the battery or alternator can't keep up with the demand of power from your Jeep, as BlueXJ mentioned you have a faulty ground, or you have a short that is drawing most of your power and not leaving much for lights and gauges.
