Surface rust, as long as that's all it is, is just an eye sore. Won't hurt anything and sands right off. Pretty common to see it on older rigs like ours. As for the other stuff, all I can say is WOW, $7k into it? Didn't really come out ahead on the engine swap. You can buy a VERY nice low mileage XJ for less than that in a lot of places. So yeah, that makes it a tough call man. Good luck.

That is alot of money...I dont think I've paid that much all together for my last 3 XJ's
Does everything else work really good? If you have a new engine why not keep it after u sunk the money into it. The rust issues are not that huge of a deal they can be fixed in many diffrent ways. If you have the new engine and everything is all good that thing should run for another 20 years.
Also with all the cash for clunkers xj's in the bone yards you can get tons of nearly mint parts for xj's for next to nothing. I''ve seen XJ's that look nearly new in the yards just with a murderd 4.0l.

Yeah the jeep runs perfect just small sufrace rust issues im dealing with, heres my plans of attack for the rust hole
1. use jb dry weld a sheet of metal and a grinder to clean up the hole and patch it shut then prime /bedline it
2. a cheaper alternative im thinking would be to use bondo to fill in the hole, my friend used it on a cj hes restoring, i think that body flex from offroading may cause the bondo to crack and break apart or just fall out of place though..
So which should i use????????
oh and my dad says that buying this jeep was okay otherwise the flipped over jeep would still be in my garage and i'de be harping on about it.
