Enging cuts out after 5 minutes...
I have a 96 country 4x4 that was running great until a few days ago when the engine just shut down on me. I was able to get it going and make it back home but I had to idle it to 1500 rpm and it was sputtering. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor as the old one had corrosion on the terminals (both of them). Now it runs for 5 minutes and it dies. I can get it going again but it runs rough and will shut down when rpm go bellow 1000. I inspected and took the coil out and found it had cracks around the housing (sealed coil). I am planning on having it tested at Autozone. Could this make the engine cut off like that. ?

Possibly but what you are describing makes me think it is more of a fuel delievery issue. I would replace your fuel filter and run some fuel system cleaner first. If your coil is cracked, just replace it. dont fool with gettin it tested.

Thank you for the reply. I did change the coil but five minutes into starting up it quit again and it will not start after a while. I will look at the fuel pressure within the next two days and follow your advice. I did the Seafoam treatment about 2 months ago, right after I bought it and it ran very well until last week. I have also read about some sensors to check on this forum which I will check also.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I know it has been a month but I finally got the Cherokee working again. I found a short on the wiring harness connection to the throttle body position sensor. I carfully removed the original male connector and trimmed out the wires and soder the terminals. Its working like a charm. I did also found the fuel filter was plugged and replaced it. Thanks for the help.
