ive been thinking about swapping it out for something bigger. more power. 190 is great and all but i was thinking a v8 would be a little more fun
i have a 99 xj 4.0 i6. can it even fit an v8 from like lets say the wj g.c. without much modding or do i have my heads way to far in the clouds? i do know that im going to have to lift my front end if it does manage to fit in there.
im not a big engine guru, so im sorry if this sounds a little idiotic. im more of a sound system guy.

If you had a totaled grand cherokee with a 360 (5.9 I think it is) then you should have all the parts to do the swap.
I got to wonder though if you hop it to much if your going to be getting into issues with body twist and cracking.

Just what it sounds like.
The XJ is a unibody design with no frame.
So the bodies can twist and are not rigid under heavy loads, or even off camber climbs.
You can find threads where its common someone will take the doors off and suddenly they can't open the back doors from the weakness of the design.
It can be stiffened up by adding a roll cage, and welding plate steel to the faux frame rails that are attached to the body. Its not cheap by any means.
If its a daily driver, that rarely see's crawling or off roading it may never be an issue.
Good luck with your project.

eesh... id probably consider some off roading... nothing that would make my suspension flex significantly but mudding and stuff... i also do towing for my dad...
but if id start doing trails i would have a roll cage on my jeep for saftey more than anything.
thanks for the tip. i didnt know about that

Check out my MODS thread. I talk a lot about the 4.9 stroker I put under the hood of my XJ. All the power you could ever need and it's plug and play. NO problems at all...
