So what i thought would be a simple question has turned me into loops of answers involving driveshafts and yokes... NOT what i'm looking for. I am setting up a 4cyl in a project of mine and to keep this simple - it has ZERO mounts currently. Could anyone out there toss an angle finder on their valve cover to help me out?

 

I went out to the garage and checked this for you.

between 3.5 and 4 degrees (nose up attitude). Using the valve cover and corrected for the level of my garage so that the degrees given are in reference to the chassis, not to my garage floor.

 

Did you factor in the rake of the Jeep? Whether the test is high or the nose is high? Because my Green cherokee the springs are sacked out so it's squatting a little, but my white Cherokee is level and my Comanche has like a 2" rake.

To answer the question I'd put the drivetrain in the jeep how it fits best. Keep it as high and tight to the body as you can without contact. I've never done a project from scratch like that, but as far as I know the angle of the drivetrain isn't a huge deal as long as it's centered in the vehicle and fairly level.

 

Yes. I factored in the rake of the Jeep. Another way of stating my measurement is that given a rocker panel at 0 degrees, the valve cover was sitting 3.5 to 4.0 degrees nose high. My motor mounts and trans mount are not new, but in decent shape.

It would be silly to count on a measurement like this from some random dude on the internet (me). So in my experience, these posts don't usually go anywhere, but I thought it would be fun to measure, and its feels good to try and help.

 

Thanks guys for the comments and info. This is something i haven't dealt with before and needed some outside input. As the drivetrain sits in the jeep currently, the belly of the jeep is completely flat. Not even the t-case hangs below the frame rails so its definitely high and tight. Ordered some poly bushings to setup the motor mounts and will be figuring the crossmember setup shortly after.
