This weekend I am taking the 4.0 out of my 98 5spd and putting it into my 96 automatic. Will this match up with the transmission on the automatic? I have a basic list of what I'll need, but does anyone have any tips, tricks, or advice for me? Any specialty tools, besides and engine hoist and stand? Any and all input is welcome. These are the 2 jeeps; 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4 door 5speed, 4.0 engine 1996 Jeep Cherokee 2 door auto, blown 4.0 engine. Thanks

You need the flex plate and torque convertor to mate that engine with the automatic tranny.

If you leave the transmission in place you will want to lower your transmission just a little to get to the "torx" bolts on the top of the transmission, you need a couple long extensions and swivel head to get to them from underneath. While you have the motor out you should change the front and rear seals, oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket.

thanks, the engine that's going in has newer seals and gaskets from a tune-up earlier this year.
what bolts are you talking about? the ones that bolt the transmission to the engine?

Yep.. Mother Chrysler used to PITA torx bolts at the top of the bellhousing to mount it to the motor.

Replace with new hex bolts to make later removal less angry.
