Default Engine Swap??

Ok i have a 94 XJ with a 6' and 33's. Stock 4.0 and an automatic. This summer i am probably going to be working like 80 hours a week and hopefully bringing home lots of bacon. I am planning on doing alot of modifications and was debating on an engine swap.

First off is it a good idea??

Second if i do go for it which engine. I was thinking a small block 350. Alittle more power but not to much extra weight.

Third with the new engine i will need to change the transmission and transfer case. How about the axles? Will i need to go to a chevrolet axle that way things bolt up right and it can handle the power?

Honestly, I would stick with a 4.0L ... they are super torquey and bulletproof. its already fuel injected, so I think it would be going backwards to put a carbbed 350 in it... if you are having problems with your tire size, you can always gear down (or up) .... stick with the 4.0 IMO

My buddy has just got done putting a 360 in his and switching it from an auto to standard! It makes lots of power (around 400 horsepower!) Now this isn't just a trail rig either, but he does lots of muddin. He is running around a 4.5'' lift and 33's.

Stroker is the best bang for the buck. Your going to have all that time and money into a V8 swap. Plus have some one off things that if they break aren't going to be easy to acquire at a local parts store. I have done many motor swaps and in some cases I wish I would have just upgraded what I had. It would have saved allot of headaches. This would also allow you to invest more of the saved cash in other things like axles and parts that will break with a V8. Just a thought.
