Default engine stutters

today i started my car to go to school and its getting to be around 20 degrees at nught. my windshield was all iced over. well i pumped the gas and when i turned the key it started but didnt feel right. it was shacky and sounded like it was gonna die. its the 4.0 engine FYI. i gas it some gas to keep the rpms up and it leveled out now its fine.

i'll try anything to get it to not do this anymore. and anything i can do to "winterize" the engine.

thanks cole

Mine does the same thing sometimes but its very moody. Sometimes it will sometimes it won't. Its a jeep thing I guess. But I checked a lot of different things and have decided it might be a sensor.

check the crankshaft positioning sensor. My dads wiring was so bad that it would do the same thing everytime he hit a bump it would stall and catch itself, it was hard starting and rough idling as well, we replaced that and its running just fine.

Pumping the gas pedal is pointless on an 4.0L....it's fuel injected and there's no choke.

Try adding a few ounces of Isopropyl Alcohol or a jug of Heet to your gas tank.

Make sure you've got the right coolant/water ratio for the temps in your area.
