What I want is a substance I can spray directly on the engine that will eliminate rust leaving a surface prepped for high temp Rustoleum.
I have seen some solvents that are in jugs that you dip the rusted parts in... but I want to just spray it on, walk away, come back 30 minutes later, spray off the engine, let dry, then rattle can.
Is this a pipe dream?
Are there options?

The hard part in any/all painting is the surface prep. Number of different ways to clean/prep the surface for paint.....none of them easy. Nothing will stick to grease.....anything will stick to clean/dry cast iron.
A good bath with industrial degreaser and a pressure washer to knock off anything loose will go a long way.
Any place that sells pressure washers or NAPA sells gallon jugs of degreaser.
Wouldnt hurt to do it twice a few days apart.

purple power is a good degreaser, i use it to clean my tires, (not wheels), clean spots on the carpet, and clean just about anything that isnt painted lol. You should see the brown that comes from a just cleaned tire once you've purple powered it
sorry that was very off topic lol
