Engine Rebuild Question
I have a spare engine that was supposedly rebuilt (it's not) and was looking at rebuilding it myself. I was going to take the block and head (after they are disassembled) to have them gone thru. Now I know with the block I should have them bore out the cylinders, hone or crosshatch them, deck the head and block, magnaflux the block. But I'm not sure what all needs to be done to the head. What should I have them do and what should I do myself when it comes to that. I'm not looking to stroke it, just rebuilding it so if mine or my brother's goes out we can just swap out the motors and rebuild the old one without too much downtime. Thanks!

For a stock rebuild, I would have them do the following:
Block: Bore/Hone cylinders, check deck for warp
Head: Check for warp, check for cracks, valve job, check valve springs
Block: Bore/Hone cylinders, check deck for warp
Head: Check for warp, check for cracks, valve job, check valve springs

what if I want the cylinders bored 0.030'' over? They wouldn't need to to anything else to the head? I know it seems like a dumb question but like I said I wasn't able to find anything on heads to read up. What all do they do for a valve job? What does it include and do I need to bring them anything to complete it?

No, the cylinders are in the block. The head is completely separate.
For a valve job, they remove the valves, and grind the valves and valve seats to the proper angle. This assures that they seal properly. Everything is then assembled with new seals. Be sure to specify that they check the springs.

I just meant that if they do a valve job, they will reassemble it with new valve stem seals. The seals will come in your complete gasket set.
