engine block should work but the head is different. I would bet if you swapped the head it would bolt right in.

Check your local laws if your vehicle is required to pass emission inspection. You are allowed to upgrade to a newer model engine, but most states will not allow you to swap in an older one. That would also depend on how thorough the inspection is. In TN the check tp make sure your catalytic converter in there, pressure check the gas cap, and test the vehicle emissions. Some states will check the engine code against the year model.

You will need the ECU , Then the harness. I am almost positive you wont have to swap heads. I few othe minior things like sensor or small stuff may be needed.

if you swap in the whole motor with the ps and alternator that is suppose to be on that motor and then use the donor harness it aint that much trouble.

The 90 is a Renix engine and the 92 is Chrysler. Everything changed in 91 when Chrysler boght Jeep from AMC. I did the same swap in the 87 I'm junking with a 94 engine. The only thing I kept from the 94 is the block, head, and water pump. I had to change everything else over from the old 87 motor. BlueXJ informed me that the Renix intake will not flow well with the H.O. head, the ports don't match up very well. He says the best thing to do is have the older head reworked and use it on the newer block.

It is more trouble than it seems. The 90 and older models use the Renix engine control system. 91 and newer use Chrysler engine control. A lot of the plugs and sensors are different and would require a load of work to change the wiring harness over. If you got it all changed out you would be chasing electrical gremlins constantly.

You wouldn't think so if you swapeed the whole motor and the ECU with it. Now I aint ever swapped a jeep motor but have done so other swaps

best i can figure, the fellow i got it from kept the intake from the 90, i have been chasing down parts for two weeks to try and get it running. if its a long block swap it shoud go smooth but when you get someone elses unfinished project. hello headache.

this would have been ideal, donor xj was hit hard in the drivers front. only the long block was salvaged.
