Hello, I have a 84 cherokee, with the 2.5, 1bbl. I am wondering, if anyone could tell me some things i could do you give it a little more power. As of now it is completly stock. I will be towing a boat with it soon, and I would like it to have a little more power. So, If anyone has some tips one how to give my jeep a little more power, please let me know. Thanks

You not going to get much out of it. BTW, how many miles are on the motor?? If it's high you could be simply asking too much of it by pulling the boat IMHO. Others on the forum have the four banger and basically it boils down to more air in more air out = HP. Get it breathing better and it should pep it up. Intake, exhaust, etc... Is it carb or FI?? Is it auto or manual??

not sure on the milage, the speedo, hasent worked since i got it, but it stopped at 125000. and i dont think it stopped it to long before i got it, the guy before be was a trucker, so it sat alot. it still has alot of pep left. it towed a 1979 ih scout no prob. It is a standard. Ans it is carborated. what could i do to get it more air?

also, I know I sayed it towed a scout no prob, but it was on flat ground, and towing the boat will be up big hills for long distances.

Dylan, I would not put your 4 banger to the test of pulling a boat up any hills. Hell I would not want to go up hill with a canoe behind a carb equipped 4 banger. No power to begin with and even less with a load. JMHO others may surely disagree.

Pull it with your ******. BTW post up some pics of the ******. I'd love to see them.

i'll post some pics, alittle later. and i would not pull it with it, because It is stock drive train. And it has drum brakes. I should tell you that, the boat is a little 14' fiiber glass, that weighs nothing. i would like to get a 2bbl carb on it, becaise i will have to get a new one soon anyway, one of the bolt holes that holdes the top on is stripped, so it has a vaccums leak.

And on the ******, it also has the lowest gears it came with, so it goes about 45, top speed, with the vette engine.

Probably cheaper to regear the ****** than to try to get enough power out of the XJ.

It would take alot to get the ****** ready to tow.
It needs an axel swap
Then Steering
trans, and tcase rebuilt, or new gaskets.
And new drive lines.

The cherokee, only needs a little more power, i was figuring a carb up grade would do something.

Not sure but when I find if I still have it I will shoot you the measurements of the bolt holes and the internal dementions and then you decide if it will work on your carb
