Unhappy Engine oil at "Add" level!!!

Hi,

This morning I shocked when I found the engine oil was at "Add" level!!! I changed it on 26/7/2012, so it's new. Now I have 3 questions;

1- What are the possible problems?
2- Is it safe to drive with the engine oil level is at "Add"?
3- What shall I do when I found the problem?

Many thanks …..

Step 1: add a quart of oil
Step 2: find a leak
Step 3: fix found leak
Step 4: party!

Problem is oil leek/oil consumption. Can be due to oil leaking out of the motor from any number of places or oil being leaked into other systems of the engin.

Yes you can drive at the add leval but it is not best to make a habit of it.
Get a quart of something in there. I would use some Lucas oil stabilizer or some other additive. Make sure to double check on FLAT ground.

When you find where the oil is going, fix it. If you don't know how to fix it, ask someone.

If it burns oil then your rings are shot. It could also leek oil into the cooling system so check for milky coolant.

If it burns oil you would see smoke out of the exhaust.... Then it's going to be way deeper that a "simple" fix. Rebuild time or new engine.

When you changed the oil, how many quarts did you put back in?

lol was wondering this, can't help but think it was 5

leaking - burning a quart in a month would usually be something a guy would notice. there would be puffs of smoke or drips

if the op indeed added 5 quarts .......

well......
